Quick short takes

Hoping to have more for you later this week, I did want to offer a few updates:

Kris Ankarlo, reporter and Chargers sideline reporter for KFI, is leaving after five years with the station. He discussed some of his favorite stories with Tim Conway Jr., hear the interview here. A graduate of Penn State University, Ankarlo arrived in SoCal via WNEW, where he was the Washington DC bureau chief. Previously he was the news director and program director for WBLF-Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. In 2004, Ankarlo worked as a field organizer for the Democratic National Committee.

A fifteen-year veteran has left KNX. Chris Madsen has left the all-news station. Madsen is a graduate of Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois. In addition to his radio duties, Madsen was the first play-by-play announcer for the NHL's Anaheim Ducks for their first nine seasons on KCAL-TV and FOX Sports West 2. He also was part of Stanley Cup playoff coverage for ESPN  / ESPN2. Madsen previously was featured on Sportschannel Chicago (now Comcast Chicago). He authored Joshua Shoots! He Scores! The Greatest Call I Ever Made. Madsen has done play-by-play including hockey, baseball, basketball, volleyball and tennis.

Steve Grad, Randy Kerdoon, Paul Olden, Joe Cala

Madsen was part of the KNX sports team, featuring the late Steve Grad, Randy Kerdoon, Paul Olden and Joe Cala which were named the 2007 California Sports Broadcasters of the Year by the Southern California Sports Broadcasters Association, also winning the Top Radio Sports Anchor Team for 2006. With the departure of Madsen, KNX no longer staffs a sports department.

Congratulations to Nic Harcourt, who celebrates 10 years at 88.5 FM (KCSN / KSBR). Previously the host of "Morning Becomes Eclectic" on Santa Monica's KCRW, Harcourt covers the 7 - 11 a.m. shift on the album alternative station. On Friday's show, he featured some of his favorite songs and live tracks.

I hear more from my friends in Japan who are opposed to the Summer Olympics than those in favor. That being said, the Olympics are dominating the TV dial. What's not happening is radio coverage of the Games. Steve Mason, who has provided coverage for Westwood One in the past, is staying home. I've yet to see anything on the radio specifically offering network updates. Also staying home is KNBC-TV and AM 570 L.A. Sports (KLAC) sports anchor Fred Roggin, who will be helping cover the Olympics for NBC but not from Tokyo.

There's now an all-Sinatra choice on the local dial, assuming you have an HD radio. Saul Levine has introduced  "All Sinatra" on KKGO-HD3, replacing the simulcast of KKJZ 88.1 FM (Long Beach). Don't have an HD radio? The station is also streaming at unforgettablefm.com, you can hear it here.

Sorry the blog schedule has been a bit erratic. I'm hoping to provide another update later this week. The best way to know what's going on is by subscribing via email, send your email address to ayodaradio@gmail.com.

Hope you and yours continue to be safe and sane. Especially now.
