An all-news reunion part 2, remembering Dusty Street, and short takes

As promised, some more pics from the KFWB-KNX reunion held at Universal City on October 21 (click to enlarge the photos). Pete Demitriou served as the "informal" emcee of the event. He had all those in attendance introduce themselves and what they did at the two all-news stations. Demitriou recalled Ken Jeffries  at the KFWB anchor desk, hitting the repeated beep tones indicating breaking news on the morning of the 1994 Northridge earthquake. Demitriou then contacted the station on his mobile two-way, then was told he'd be on the air in 10 seconds. He decried the claim "radio is dead," noting that in times of emergency, it's radio that becomes "the" essential source for information, "and it will always be that way." A quick note about a worthy cause

Hi everyone, We'll get back to our usual coverage of the local dial later this week. I did want to draw your attention to a birthday fundraiser we're doing on Facebook for the "Love, Evan" project . Evan was a young adult whose battled cancer throughout his teenage years, finishing college while undergoing chemotherapy, before his passing which was far too soon. In his honor, his Mom created this project to help other cancer patients and their familes.  I've started a Facebook fundraiser to help out this humble effort. You can click here  to find out how you can support this project. There's a bit of urgency as Facebook is changing their fundraising policy at the end of this month, so the opportunity to raise donations is a smaller window than usual As I mentioned, we'll be back to regular programming later this week. Thanks for your consideration. Thanks, Alan

(Hi! I'll explain later why I've been offline for awhile, just keeping real busy. But onto today's posting.) I'm confess I'm a news junkie, specifically a radio news junkie. I currently get my information from LAist 89.3 (KPCC), KFI, KNX, and whatever else I find. But for many years, THE stations to find news were found on 980 AM and 1070 AM. This past weekend, many of the voices that let me know what was going on around SoCal and the world had a reunion in Universal City. Regina Pacheco, Mariah Pacheco. The news writing veteran organized the well-attended event. Kaci Christian  paid tribute to the late Don Barrett . A true pleasure to meet her for the first time. I remember first meeting  John Brooks  when he was reporting in the field, he was surprised someone recognized him. Not only was Nancy Plum a great traffic reporter, she also was part of the late, lamented top-40 Ten-Q (KTNQ). Chuck Rowe  continues traffic reports at KTAR-Phoenix. I'm planning to do a
