Update: Stryker joining ALT 98.7 afternoons

Chris Booker, Ted Stryker

Ted Stryker has joined ALT 98.7 (KYSR)  host Chris Booker for "Afternoons with Booker and Stryker." The new PM drive program debuted this afternoon.

Ted Stryker, Kevin Klein

Stryker was most recently heard on KROQ, a 20 year veteran of the station most recently hosting morning drive with Kevin Klein until June, 2021. Stryker hosted a number of shifts on the Audacy alternative rock outlet, including serving as co-host with Dr. Drew Pinsky after the departure of Adam Carolla.

This isn't the first time Stryker's been heard on 98.7. He originally was heard on what was then "STAR 98.7" in 1996 via KFMA-Phoenix. Two years later, he moved over to KROQ to cover the all-night shift before taking over afternoon drive.

Lisa Worden

The new pairing is credited to Lisa Worden, VP of Rock and Alternative at iHeartMedia and ALT 98.7 PD. Stryker told Variety, "the second Lisa said it, I was in 100%...I thought it was a great idea. I love Booker; he is an incredible broadcaster and we get along great. This was, for me, such an obvious choice for my next chapter. It’s going to be fun." Worth noting, Worden is also a KROQ veteran.

The new afternoon program continues to distinguish the two L.A. alternative stations. Much has been said about the future of KROQ, including a rumor the station would flip to active rock. ALT 98.7's ratings have been largely stable for the past six months while KROQ continues to trend gradually downward. Both stations rely on syndication and / or voicetracking, though the new ALT 98.7 show appears to be live and local.
