An all-news reunion part 1
(Hi! I'll explain later why I've been offline for awhile, just keeping real busy. But onto today's posting.)
I'm confess I'm a news junkie, specifically a radio news junkie. I currently get my information from LAist 89.3 (KPCC), KFI, KNX, and whatever else I find. But for many years, THE stations to find news were found on 980 AM and 1070 AM. This past weekend, many of the voices that let me know what was going on around SoCal and the world had a reunion in Universal City.Regina Pacheco, Mariah Pacheco. The news writing veteran organized the well-attended event.
Kaci Christian paid tribute to the late Don Barrett. A true pleasure to meet her for the first time.
I remember first meeting John Brooks when he was reporting in the field, he was surprised someone recognized him.
Not only was Nancy Plum a great traffic reporter, she also was part of the late, lamented top-40 Ten-Q (KTNQ). Chuck Rowe continues traffic reports at KTAR-Phoenix.
I'm planning to do a story on the podcast "Nothing Funny about Being Jewish" hosted by Ken Jeffries (with his wife Stephanie).
The boss, Roger Nadel.
Brandon & Cherlyn Howard, family of the late Bob Howard, such a true pro.
Pat Williams, helping remember another KFWB pro, Eric Williams, who kept us listeners informed for over three decades.
Michael Shappe, wearing a cool nametag; "portions written by Susan Styles"; Andy Ludlum, who served as GM of both KNX and KFWB.
He got a loud cheer when he introduced hmself as "Tom Storey, Air 980," with Ken Jeffries.
I remember watching Steve Lentz (r) on KTLA as well as hearing him on KFWB, pictured with John Brooks.
Pete Demitriou served as the emcee for the afternoon, Brian Bland provided stories to KFWB as a reporter for the AP network.
Mitch Waldo, one of the unsung heroes at the Editor's Desk.
I'll always associate Tom Haule with his partner Linda Nunez, the team that won so many awards anchoring KNX mornings.
Tom with ace reporter Stephanie Roberts.
Debbie Wright and David Ysais, part of the multiple award-winning KNX newswriters.
A station can't survive without Todd Burdick and the KNX sales staff.
.
Joe McDonnell referred to him as "the great Joe Cala," the sportscaster pictured with KFWB news anchor and currently teaching at Humboldt State, Zoe Walron.
I miss KFWB vet Hettie Lynn Hurtes doing midday anchor duties at KPCC, seated with Diane Dray, another member of KFWB's award-winning newswriters and editors.
Paul Lowe and Tom Haule, the voices you trust.
Radio, TV, and Professor Tracie Savage, now on the faculty at Pierce College.
Steve Kindred, still doing anchor duties at KABC.
Sports anchor and author Ted Sobel.
More to come, stay tuned! ayodaradio@gmail.com
