And a couple more: Arriving afternooner, departing morning host

After the release of afternoon hosts Kevin Ryder and Doug "Sluggo" Roberts last September, it's taken five months for heritage rock station KLOS to hire their successor. Nik Carter, who started this past Monday.

Carter most recently served as a host of “Feedback” at SiriusXM’s Music Talk “Volume” channel. The East Coast native got his start at WFNX Boston followed by a brief run in mornings at WDGE-Providence in 1995/96. He would then be the afternooner at active rock WBCN-Boston for a nine year run in through 2004. Carter then headed for 92.3 K-Rock (WXRX-New York) until 2009. He also has been the image voice for several stations including WNEW-NewYork, WXRT-Chicago, WBOS-Boston, WTGB-FM-, Washington DC, and SiriusXM's "Classic Rewind." His voiceover work lists a significant number of national brands, including MTV, VH-1 Classic (where he was also a host), Animal Planet, ESPN, ESPN 2, Nickelodeon, Court TV, PBS, Fusion TV, Geico, Jim Beam, Purina, Optimum cable, Sony PSP, McDonalds, Burger King, Reebok, Nikon, Pontiac, Timberland, and Verizon, among many others.

Carter said to several radio news websites, including Radio Insight: “Let’s get real here, 95.5 KLOS is the Mount Olympus of rock radio! Anyone who’s ever touched a mic knows this is the ultimate summit. KLOS is as iconic as the Hollywood Sign, and being part of it is the kind of opportunity that makes you want to fist-pump and check your pulse at the same time. It’s thrilling, it’s intimidating, and it’s exactly where I want to be. I can’t wait to connect with all the fellow music nerds and pop culture fanatics who can talk for hours about their favorite artists, songs, and films, with a few ridiculous impressions and bad jokes thrown in for good measure.”

“Nik Carter is the shot of adrenaline KLOS has been waiting for," said Pio Ferro, recently hired as SVP / Audio Brands for Meruelo Media. "He’s got the swagger, the stories, and the passion for rock ‘n’ roll radio that defines our station. He’s the voice of the people who live and breathe this music, and he’s going to be a perfect fit to take KLOS into the next chapter.”

Drive away: Go Country 105 (KKGO) morning host Tim Hurley exited the station earlier this week. He teamed up with Angie Fitzsimmons in July, 2019, then later with Adam Bookbinder until last year when Bookbinder became the midday host.

He shared what happened on his Instagram account:

This morning I got the news. Go Country 105 has decided to let me go. I got canned! But that’s alright, I’m going to miss hanging with you guys every morning but I’ll definitely be around and I’m not going anywhere. I wanna thank Go Country for giving me the opportunity for being on the air for over five years and spending mornings with you guys. Crazy to think it has been that long. I’ve been a fan and I’ll continue to be a fan. I love you guys so I’ll definitely see you around. I’ll keep you posted on my next adventure. See you soon.

Hurley is also known in Southern California as a country music artist

No permanent successor has been announced by the station.
