Update: (KNX) News making news

The local all-news outlet is making some news of their own once again. Julie Chin, the station's Director for the past 19 years, has been released. A veteran of San Francisco's news-talk behemoth KGO, Chin arrived from the Bay Area in 2006. She recently oversaw the station's wall-to-wall coverage of the Palisades and Eaton fires.

A graduate of Cal Berkeley, Chin grew up in a household where the radio was always tuned to KGO.  “I was always interested in news, information, media, etc. so I focused on that. I did a couple of internships, both of which happened to be in radio and my love of radio was solidified. It felt like home,” said Chin.  She’d find herself eventually hired as an editorial assistant and producer, finding herself in management “because I kept saying ‘yes!’”

We'd previously reported on the departure of Alex Silverman, who served as KNX's Program and News Director as Audacy's VP of News Programming here in LA. Silverman also was part of the station's coverage during the January fires. KNX achieved their highest ratings in decades, and continues to be in the top five.

The position of KNX Program Director will be filled by Chris Ebbott, Audacy Senior VP of Programming for Audacy Los Angeles. Ebbott originally returned to Los Angeles in 2014 to help recast KRTH (K-EARTH 101) for GenX and Millennial audiences, having previously worked for KYSR (STAR 98.7), KFI, and KCBS-FM (JACK-FM). He also did a stint for Bell Media-Toronto, as Program / Brand Director for top 40 CKFM (now "99.9 Virgin Radio") and CHBM (97.3 BOOM Radio).

Ebbott adds KNX to his responsibilities at KRTH as well as also serving as PD at KTWV (The WAVE).

We'll share more as we get additional details.

  1. That's a bummer. Julie always treated me very well at KNX and I'm grateful to her for that. I'm sure she'll land on her feet soon.

  2. I am shocked there has been no mention on this blog about the death of the legendary KROQ DJ, Jed the Fish (Edwin Gould III), who was on KROQ from 1978 to 2012, and was also on KLOS and KCSN for a period of time. Please write you thoughts about Jed the Fish.

    1. I'm actually writing a post about Jed the Fish, Wink Martindale, and Ed Arnold, who've all passed recently. I post breaking news as soon as I can, I also have other stories in the queue. Thanks for reading!
