Vicky Moore signs off

As we reported yesterday, Vicky Moore is leaving all-news KNX. Earlier this morning, she offered her farewell to her listeners:

Vicky Moore, Mike Simpson

So today is my last day, 22 years…and someone told me I should say something. It’s not really my nature. Anyhow, so I wrote something, so here I go.

Brian Douglas, Sioux-Z Jessup, Sabina Mora

I really love radio. Because radio is about community. At a time when the phone in our pocket and in our hands right now creates distance between us, and the politics divide us, the AI make us questioning what is real, people here at KNX all around me are real. And they are people who live and work in this community. Brian Douglas and Sioux-Z Jessup, our traffic team, Sabina (Mora) – they care about people driving in from places like Santa Clarita. Or when you hear sirens on the westside or Monrovia, we here at KNX are curious too! And we can joke about the differences between LA and Orange County and how Irvine is always topping the list somewhere because we are here with you in this community. We know Southern California.

Vicky Moore, Dick Helton

It has been my privilege to be part of this community and to tell you stories about things that matter, as well as things that just might brighten your day. We’ve had so much fun. It has been my absolute pleasure to meet some of you, along the way. We used to do – Dick Helton is here this morning –  we used to do “KNX on Your Corner,”  and people would come up to us and it was so nice.

Margaret Carrero

So I hope that you will continue to listen to KNX and enjoy my partner here and support him, Mike Simpson, and the new owner of my chair as the morning co-host, that is Margaret Carrero, we wish her well.

And thank you so much for inviting me to ride along with you, and hang out in your home, every now and then, for the past 22 years, and I get to say it – stay classy, Los Angeles!

A Sacramento native, she was born to a father who owned a construction company and a mom who was a nurse. She pursued a different calling: "When I was at Sacramento State in the mid-1980s, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I was leaning toward public relations. It was in a Writing for Broadcasting class where my professor greatly influenced the direction in my life. He told me I was outstanding and that I should intern at a non-union tv station in town and get very hands-on experience.”

Mark Austin Thomas

Instead of TV, Moore was hired at soft-rocker K-108 (KXOA-FM), while still a senior at Sac State. She then headed to KUIC-Vacaville and Sacramento news / talk leader KFBK in the early 1990s. She accepted an opportunity to move to Los Angeles and take a part-time position at KFI. “It seemed strange to take a cut in pay from Sacramento, but the (News Director) Mark Austin Thomas, said that if I hustled he would increase my hours.”

When asked why she loved the news by LARadio.com's Don Barrett, Moore replied  “I love the pace. I have a natural curiosity and thrive on deadlines. Even in school I would wait until the night before an assignment was due to do it. Plus you get to meet so many interesting people."

Alex Silverman

The new KNX anchor lineup includes the aforementioned Mike Simpson and Margaret Carrero covering the morning, with Alex Silverman and Brian Douglas alternating shifts in afternoons.

A quick note: Quoting the moniker of the late Wayne Shannon, we've been trying to compose a column about "what's it all mean?" Lots of changes on the local airwaves, we'll get something written. And any suggestions you have for us to consider are welcomed. As always, stay tuned.
