Still another round of short takes

Staying in the biz:  Former KNX LA City Hall reporter Claudia Peschuitta  is joining Pasadena's KPCC and LAist. She spent 15 years at the Audacy all-news outlet, plus general assignment work for KFWB and west coast correspondent for Fox News Radio.   Recovery ward:   KLOS morning co-host Heidi Hamilton  is recovering from bladder surgery to remove tumors. Heidi's wife Cris offered an update, stating Heidi is doing well but hating having to use a catheter while recovering. Hamilton has been a co-host on KLOS since 2012. She started as the traffic reporter for Jamie White , Frosty Stillwell  and Frank Kramer  on STAR 98.7 (KYSR) in 1998, then joining Stillwell and Kramer on KLSX in 2000. After a stop at KABC, Hamilton has been teamed up with Kramer for KLOS mornings.  It turns out co-host Kramer is also ailing but recovering, both hosts promise to be back on the air in the very near future. A new Angel now in flight:  Sorry to hear of the passi...

Short-takes, the mid-October edition

(After a bout of food poisoning, norovirus, or being sick to my stomach after the Dodgers' loss on Saturday, I was out of commission this weekend but have hopefully now reached the end. I think there's an unintended pun. Sorry once again for the delay.) Cambiar: Univision’s top rated KLVE (K-LOVE 107.5 FM, again not to be confused with 100.3 FM) debuted a new morning show on Monday, October 1. Afternoon host Ysaac Álvarez moves to AM drive with co-host Fernanda Kelly . The new program, “Levántate con Ysaac  Álvarez” replaces “El Show de Omar y Argelia,” the very successful long running program hosted by the husband and wife team of Omar Velasco and Angelia Atilano .  Velasco said the morning program became more wearing over time, but denied rumors the couple was separating, saying “they are more united than ever” and are “ready to face the future together.” As a preamble to his first show, Alvarez offered the following: This child, now a man, left home at the age o...

Touching Greatness by Ted Sobel

Image
I admit I’ve a stack of books that I’m reading, I’ve a bit of a backlog. But one book I’m looking forward to reading is a unique memoir written by sportscaster Ted Sobel . Touching Greatness is based on his experience with over 750 Hall of Famers in sports, music, and show biz. They range from getting to know and later work with his boyhood idols, to covering the entire careers of greats like Kobe Bryant and Tiger Woods, and to even breaking stories on the origins of songs by the Eagles. Add Sobel’s personal retro experiences of being an L.A. kid in the 60s, and its a book for readers of varied interests. The three-time Golden Mike winner is now in his 17 th year as a studio host/reporter for Sports USA radio network broadcasts of the NFL and NHL and still covers important events worldwide. He’s served as sports reporter and anchor at KNX, KMPC, and KFWB, all-news and all-sports stations in Southern California since the mid 1980s. And while at KLAA radio, he did play-by-play f...

More mornings with Seacrest: Described in a press release as “the nationally-celebrated media and entertainment entrepreneur, radio personality, television host and producer and unmatched creative talent,” iHeart Media announced they’ve signed Ryan Seacrest to a new deal that extends their agreement to the end of 2025. “Continuing my relationship with iHeartMedia was a no-brainer,” said Seacrest. “Thirty years speed by when you love what you do. I get to live out my dream every day by interacting with our listeners and hearing their stories. Thank you to Bob and Rich and the entire iHeartMedia team for continuing to support us and grow with us.   And a special thank you to my on-air crew, the best team in radio, for making the show work seamlessly every day.” Worth noting: By the end of this contract, Seacrest will have helmed KIIS-FM mornings for 21 years, though still shy of the 23 years of " Rick Dees  in the Morning." My(FM), some more changes: Speaking of iHear...
